THE RUINED TEMPLE
Washington, first President of the United States was initiated on November 4, 1752 in Virginia when he was 20. Appointed Mason on March 3, 1753, he became Master in 1753 also. In 1784 he was a member of the Alexandria 39 Lodge and became Worshipful Master in 1788.
The war was led in the name of freemasonry ideals, division of powers, human rights, power to the people, united federations, republic. And Washington reveals LaFayette that it is the ideal of justice and humanity coming from the French lodges that raised up, prepared and carried out the american program: - Revolutionary War - Declaration of Independence - Constitution.
Today, partitioning of the society, levelling-down and unique thought have become so very common. Only one aim is being kept: debasement of the masses in order to prevent them from thinking whilst brandishing threats and old demons. Whereas freemasonry played an instrumental and leading part in the conquest of liberty in the XVIIIth Century, today with its silence and lack of definite position-taking, no more messages appear to be delivered. The gate becomes narrower and narrower entailing the loss of knowledge and tradition. The rule of secrecy cannot account for everything, especially at a time when the best goodwills are wrecked, the noblest feelings rejected and money offered the supreme throne. What a sad world when inequalities are more and more blatant. Man vainly looks for the architecture of his inner temple finding examples in illusive thoughts leading to nowhere but enrichment of his oversized ego.
LaFayette once told the Indians he considered so highly and with great sollicitude: "Let us form a strong and brilliant chain" (Memories II). This is the idea itself of the freemasons'universal union chain . And this liberty LaFayette will work for its application in France: "When you love it, you're quiet only when it is established in your own country" (Memories III).
