Un tour de ville en Traction et Heureuse Année Rochefort !

C'est dans ce modèle que j'ai fait un tour de ville. Merci à son aimable propriétaire. 


Beaucoup de monde en ville pour ces Fêtes de Fin d'Année ! Le week-end de Noël a été une réussite. Vous étiez nombreux à admirer, comme moi, les voitures anciennes exposées au Quartier Champlain. Chacun pouvait même faire un tour de ville à bord de ces merveilles. Parcourir le centre ville en Traction, photographiée ici devant l'Eglise Notre-Dame ou en Spitfire laisse un souvenir impérissable !  Un grand merci aux heureux propriétaires pour leur gentillesse et leur temps donné sans compter.

Je ne résiste pas au plaisir de vous offrir les photos de l'évènement. Petit cadeau en ces derniers jours de l'année, en espérant que 2013 apportera de nombreux changements à Rochefort, de la joie de vivre et du bonheur pour tous ! Restons positifs, notre ville est belle et possède bien des atouts. C'est à nous tous de les mettre en valeur, de se rassembler et de préparer un grand avenir à la Cîté de Colbert !

Vous découvrirez les illuminations bleutées, et pour ce dimanche 23 décembre, la ville s'anime grâce aux commerçants du centre ville et de la Rue Gambetta. Il y aura même une exposition de voitures anciennes rue Champlain aux abords de l'Eglise Notre-Dame.

Romanesque Bestiaries in Poitou-Charentes: Symbols Explained

How can one choose a favourite from the bouquet of Poitevin churches? Perhaps Charroux, of which all that survives is an extraordinary lantern-tower on eight pillars, and arches springing from capitals of luxuriant foliage, called the Charlemagne Tower. Or perhaps Airvault, where the ribbed and pointed vaults of the Angevin Style are attached to an older Romanesque structure. Or Saint-Gilles of Argenton-Château, or Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes. Or some other church, its façade adorned with delicately carved arches.

The ancient church of Saint-Pierre of Chauvigny, between Poitiers and Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe, hangs from the strong walls of a ruined fortress. Several of the distinctive characteristics of the local Romanesque Style are brought together here, with its barrel-vaulted central nave, lit by large windows in the façade, and carried on rib-vaulted side-aisles, of almost equal height. The capitals, signed by a certain Godfridus, show an imaginary bestiary that perhaps derives from images brought back by the Crusaders, and the soft limestone carries energetic reliefs of the Annunciation, the Adoration of the Magi and the Weighing of Souls at the Last Judgement. Around the choir, dragons, a sphinx and birds of prey all plunge the pilgrim into an apocalyptic world. Eglise Saint-Paul de Rochefort: un autre sanctuaire dégradé

Suite à mon article sur l'état déplorable de l'intérieur de l'Eglise Saint-Louis, vous avez été nombreux à me faire part de votre indignation ou de votre stupeur. J'ai reçu, à ce jour, près de 1700 messages. Je ne peux donc pas tous les publier. Chacun le comprendra.  Je suis heureux d'avoir été à l'origine de cette prise de conscience et d'avoir provoqué une réflexion.

Je vous emmène aujourd'hui à l'Eglise Saint-Paul, sanctuaire moderne, outragé, lui aussi, par les tags cette fois. Il lui suffirait d'un bon nettoyage du ciment brut ou simplement d'une belle peinture pour le rendre frais. Cela ne coûte pas une fortune ! Espérons que la Municipalité fera un effort. Les habitants du quartier apprécieraient cette hommage.  

L'église est située sur la Montée Rouge, non loin du Lycée Merleau-Ponty, sur le terrain du bar-épicerie Chauvin racheté en 1965-1966. C'est l'architecte Marc Quentin qui la conçoit en 1967. Rochefort lui doit également l'ancien Hôpital Saint-Charles et l'Ecole Anatole France.

L'intérieur de l'église est conçu en rotonde polygonale que les angles extérieurs ne laissent pas deviner, le tout en béton brut. La voûte en étoile avec nervures principales évoque un vaste parachute ouvert, vu de l'intérieur, et ne manque ni d'élégance ni d'ampleur.   Le sanctuaire est inondé de lumière grâce à un dispositif de fenêtres à hauteurs décalées, en verre bleu et blanc. Sur les bas-côtés, de petits carrés et rectangles de verre translucide ponctuent la nudité du mur et font jouer la lumière. Derrière le maître-autel, un muret à décor de pointes de diamants de différents volumes ajoute du relief aux murs de l'église, par ailleurs, lisses.
Orientée au nord, l'Eglise Saint-Paul s'inscrit parfaitement dans le cadre de la Place éponyme qui est arborée et agrémentée de plantations.  

France's Coast of Beauty: From Royan to La Rochelle and Rochefort

Discover the beauty of this French coast that does deserve its name. The Coast of Beauty also has a number of small beaches, some beaten by the violent breakers of the Atlantic Ocean, others well sheltered and surrounded by forests. The historic cities, such as Rochefort, La Rochelle or Brouage and the famous Ile d'Oléron and Ile de Ré are a must-see.

 

On the northern side of the Gironde estuary begins the Saintonge, with its "Coast of Beauty": 70 kilometers of pine- and oak-covered littoral where a number of pretty resorts enjoy a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. One of them, Royan, was entirely rebuilt after being destroyed by bombing in 1945 and offers an example of good modern town planning. The Coast of Beauty also has a number of small beaches, some - such as Saint-Palais-sur-Mer - beaten by the violent breakers of the Atlantic Ocean, others well sheltered and surrounded by forests. Adjoining the Coast of Beauty in the North are two popular offshore islands, the Ile de Ré with its long sandy beaches, white houses with hollyhocks, and the Ile d'Oléron. The main holiday centres in the Ile d'Oléron are Saint-Trojan-les-Bains and the pleasant port of La Cotinière. Le Château d'Oléron, the chief port, facing the mainland, is surrounded by 17th century fortifications. The famous "Fort Boyard" can be seen from the lovely Côte des Saumonards....

Near Brouage, Rochefort, a town built ex nihilo in the 17th century offers typical mansions of this period, a picturesque arsenal with its Corderie Royale (Royal Ropery), the "Porte du Soleil" and an old transporter-bridge. This is where a replica of L'Hermione, the frigate that took LaFayette to America, is being rebuilt.

Washington Capitol Building: An All-Pervading Sense Of History

                           The Capitol Building has an all-pervading sense of History about it, of momentous events and great political passions, which no visitor, whether American or foreign, can miss. He may even feel it under his feet as he stands on the white circle in the middle of the floor of the rotunda, for here the bodies of military leaders, senators and Presidents, including Abraham Lincoln and John Kennedy, have lain in state.


                              As Washington is the main body of government of the United States, so Capitol Hill is the heart. This is the place where the first stones were laid for the Capitol of the new nation, and it is still the point from which Washington measures its growth, both literally and figuratively.  Literally, the city is divided into quadrants, according to lines drawn through Capitol Hill and its streets are named in order east and west, north and south, of the Hill. Figuratively, the city draws its lifeblood from what happens on the Hill, and politics are very much the raison d'être of Washington; the speeches of Congressmen are discussed in bars and buses, the decisions of state are the staple diet of cocktail and dinner parties.

 

 Whatever else draws millions of people to Washington every year, is the activities of the people on the Hill which arouse the greatest interest. Dominating the Hill, with its nineteen-foot-tall Statue of Armed Freedom on the Dome soaring 287 feet above the ground, is the Capitol Building itself, where the U.S. Congress meets. Although security is considerably tighter than it was, visitors are still welcome in the Capitol building and see enough to get a good idea of how it works, whether or not Congress is in session.

Je vous emmène donc à Washington, sur la Colline du Capitole, lieu hautement symbolique pour la Nation Américaine. Une visite du Capitole réserve bien des surprises, avec ses salles immenses et magnifiquement décorées, notamment l'impressionnant National Statuary Hall et la Rotonde ornée de l'extraordinaire Apothéose de Washington, fresque grandiose réalisée par Contantino Brumidi. EGLISE SAINT-LOUIS DE ROCHEFORT: L'OUTRAGE

Derrière cette majestueuse façade néo-classique, se cache un sanctuaire mutilé, blessé, outragé, à l'horrible dallage de ciment. Et comme l'inscription du linteau nous invite à entrer : "Pavete ad Sanctuarium Meum" (Soyez saisi d'effroi à l'approche de mon sanctuaire). Entrez, entrez, voyez comme j'agonise!
Alors la stupeur vous prendra comme moi. Le délabrement d'un décor jadis somptueux fait pitié. Ceci dans la plus grande indifférence de nos édiles. Les photos qui suivent en portent témoignage. Attention au choc!
Toujours pas rénovée, notre magnifique Eglise Saint-Louis interpelle, encore et toujours! Les peintures murales achèvent de tomber en lambeaux et la voûte attend désespérèment une aide qui ne vient toujours pas. Dans la pénombre, je m'approche à pas feutrés, du Tombeau de Monsieur Bégon. Stupeur! Notre gloire Rochefortaise n'a pas de chance non plus. Sans jamais le moindre bégonia pour fleurir sa sépulture, on se dit que l'humain est bien ingrat! surtout lorsqu'il dispose d'un Conservatoire du Bégonia en sa ville.
Bégon n'est hélas pas le seul à être sorti du panthéon rochefortais par la volonté d'une municipalité fâchée avec l'Histoire de sa Ville.
On nous annonce des dépenses somptuaires, des projets pharaoniques, on ne compte plus les effets de manche: grandioses salles de cinéma multiplex, ancien Hôpital Saint-Charles transformé en mini Zénith. On a même fait à l'Hermione une fête grandiose cet été et les bâteaux-porte ont coûté une vraie fortune.
Cetta ambiance, très fin de règne, est pitoyable. On se pose des questions partout en ville. On attend des réponses, sur notre église, sur le Quai aux Vivres qui se meurt également. Ca ne peut plus durer!
Que l'on soit croyant ou pas, un sanctuaire demeure un sanctuaire par delà les siècles et le temps. Honte à ceux qui n'en prennent pas soin car c'est ainsi que l'âme d'une cîté meurt.
